2024 AWCON: Black Queens beat Namibia in the first leg

Ghana defeated Namibia 3:1 in the first leg of the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, December 1, 2023.

A brace from Doris Boaduwaa and Portia Boakye’ stunner ensured the Black Queens secured a resounding victory against their counterparts from Namibia.

Prior to the encounter, the Black Queens have amassed nine consecutive wins and remained unbeaten since Nora Häuptle took over the coaching job in January this year.

Doris Boaduwaa broke the deadlock in the 28th minute before Portia Boakye doubled the lead in the 37th minute of the game.

In the 58th minute, Boaduwaa netted the third goal for the Black Queens before an own goal reduced the deficit to 3:1.

With the 3:1 victory, the Black Queens are hoping to secure a positive result in the reverse fixture in Namibia to be able to secure a ticket to the tournament.

The Black Queens failed to qualify for the last edition of the tournament but are determined to secure a ticket for the upcoming edition.
