Former Asante Kotoko captain Papa Arko is dead

Former Asante Kotoko striker and skipper, Ernest Papa Arko has passed away according to multiple reports reaching Getsportsgh.com.

The legendary goal poacher is reported to have kicked the bucket on Sunday after a short illness.

Papa Arko has become the latest Asante Kotoko legend to have passed away this month after Joe Debrah who died earlier this month after suffering a heart attack.

Papa Arko played for Asante Kotoko in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

He was the captain of Asante Kotoko in 1980 at a time they were described to be the most talented players. They went on to be finalists in the 1982 African Cup of Champions Clubs competition where they lost to Al Ahly SC of Egypt.

Papa Arko continued to lead Asante Kotoko in 1983 and went ahead to win the CAF Champions League in same year.

Papa Arko was part of the Ghana squad that failed to defend the Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980. He was also part of the team in the 1984 AFCON.
