Medeama attacker, Benjamin Bature has said the club’s target is to reach the knockout stage of the CAF Champions League.

The Tarkwa-based club will be playing in the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

The Yellow and Mauves will open the CAF Champions League group stage against Al Ahly SC at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo on Saturday evening.

Speaking ahead of the team’s departure to Egypt, Bature said, “We are proud of ourselves securing qualification to the group stage for the first time in the club’s history, but we want to move further in the competition, so we are going to fight to progress to the knockout stage.

Medeama secured historic qualification to the group stage of the CAF Champions League after eliminating Guinean giants Horoya AC in the final phase of the preliminary round.

The Ghana champions are in Group D of the CAF Champions League alongside the defending champions of the competition Al Ahly SC, CR Belouizdad from Algeria and Tanzania giants Young Africans.

Medeama SC will play its three home matches of the CAF Champions League group stage at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
