Asante Kotoko pip Medeama in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko secured a narrow win against Medeama in week eleven of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

It was a penalty goal from Sheriff Mohammed tht ensured Asante Kotoko amassed all three maximum points at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Before the game, Asante Kotoko had gone five matches without victory and were under immense pressure.

Despite losing three of its key players of Nurudeen Abdulai, Abdul Fatawu Hamidu and Jonathan Sowah to the Black Stars for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Medeama gave Asante Kotoko a stiffer opposition.

The first forty-five minutes ended goalless with both sides displaying a tantalizing performance.

Asante Kotoko returned from the tunnel to dominate the early minutes of the second half which led to Sheriff Mohammed’s goal from the spot in the 63rd minute of the encounter.

Medeama came in stronger for the equalizer but all efforts went fruitless as Asante Kotoko managed to defend gallantly till the blast of the final whistle.

Asante Kotoko will travel to Legon Cities FC for week twelve fixture while Medeama have their game against Great Olympics postponed due to their participation in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League campaign.
