I'm not scared to be sacked - Hearts of Oak coach Koopman

Under-fire Hearts of Oak head coach, Martin Koopman says he is not afraid to be sacked following the team’s sloppy start to the season.

The Dutch trainer is currently under pressure with rumours that he might be fired after drawing goalless at home against Legon Cities FC on Sunday.

Hearts of Oak are having a torrid season, languishing at the 11th position on the league table with just twelve points after ten matches, winning two matches with six draws and two defeats.

The former league champions have recorded just a victory in the last seven matches, a situation that has left most fans worried.

But speaking after the Legon Cities FC stalemate at the Accra Sports Stadium, Martin Koopman boldly stated that he is not scared of being sacked.

Koopman indicated that he is the right coach for the Hearts of Oak job but will welcome the decision of the club should they decide to abrogate his contract.

“Listen, I am not afraid to be sacked and that is the first thing. If I will be afraid to get sacked, then I will not be in this business.I was a professional footballer for many years and am now a football coach, but if you are afraid, you don’t venture into football coaching”, Koopman said.

He added,”I believe in my qualities and I think I am the coach who can work with this team and you can ask the kind of person I am. So I am not afraid to get sacked, never. If they make a decision that is fine and I must respect that but I have a contract with the club and that is what I will say.”

Hearts of Oak’s next fixture is an away game against Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium this weekend.
