Black Stars: Chris Hughton given two-match ultimatum

The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) request to have Chris Hughton sacked as Black Stars head coach has been rejected by the government according to a report by Asaase Radio.

It was widely reported in the media that Hughton will be sacked on Friday by the GFA following the Black Stars recent poor performance.

The GFA, according to the reports, were only waiting for approval from the government before sacking the former Newcastle United manager.

But in a latest development, the GFA and Sports Ministry have reached an agreement to give Chris Hughton a two-match ultimatum to save his job or shipped out.

The two matches will be against Madagascar and Comoros in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which start next week.

It is believed that government’s reluctance to support Hughton’s proposed sacking was due to its reluctance to add to the growing debt stock of past coaches which include CK Akonnor and Milovan Rajevac.

After reaching the agreement, Chris Hughton has announced a 25-man squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

Kasim Adams, Daniel Amartey, Osman Bukari and KamalDeen Sulemana have returned to the Black Stars for this month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

The quartet have been named alongside Captain Andre Ayew, Denis Odoi, Majeed Ashimeru and Baba Idrissu in a 25-man squad for the double header.

Ghana will host Madagascar on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium before facing Comoros in Moroni on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
