Asante Kotoko lack leadership on the pitch - Ernest Boateng

Former Asante Kotoko player, Ernest Boateng says the current team lack players with exceptional leadership qualities.

According to Boateng, Asante Kotoko boast of talented players but have no one among them to bring them to order on the pitch.

This comes at a period that Asante Kotoko are having a sloppy start to the season, sitting at the 14th position on the league log with just two victories, three defeats and four draws after nine matches.

The Porcupines dropped to the 14th position on the league log after losing 1:0 to Dreams FC at home last weekend, with teenage midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah scoring the only goal from a sublime free-kick.

The defeat to Dreams FC escalated the situation as Asante Kotoko fans booed the players and officials of the club as a way of expressing their dissatisfaction with the performance of the team.

And Boateng believes no senior members of the current Asante Kotoko players have the ability to discipline the younger ones to keep their shape and focus on the field.

He told Kessben Sports: “There is no leader in the team. In every team, besides the coach and captain there is always a player who controls the boys on the pitch. When we met Frimpong Manso and Ampiah checked on us to ensure that we created problems for our opponents.

“Not everything will be done by the coach. They are just playing with no leadership on the pitch.”

Asante Kotoko’s next game is against FC Samartex at the dreaded Nsenkyire Sports Complex in Samreboi this weekend.
