“I will cancel betting, [and make it] illegal in my country. What do you mean by betting when I need young people like them to sit behind computers and design things and build a country where we have the highest technology in Ghana and the world?”

This comes after the majority leader of Parliament, Kyei-Mensah Bonsu had made same claims, justifying the need to tax winnings on sports betting and lottery.

To the Suame MP, betting is a lazy adventure and if not regulated it will corrupt the youth in Ghana.

He believes betting does not encourage hard work but rather teaches people to engage in lazy activities.

Meanwhile, as part of regulating sports betting, the Ghana Revenue Authority has implemented a 10% tax on winnings from betting.
