Asante Kotoko fans vandalise stadium seats in 2:2 draw with Nations FC

Some angry supporters of Asante Kotoko expressed their frustration in a 2:2 draw with Nations FC by destroying the seats at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

The Porcupines were held to a 2:2 stalemate by Nations FC in week six of the Ghana Premier League with fans of the visiting team destroying the seats at the stadium after a penalty was awarded against them in the dying embers of the game.

Asante Kotoko were a minute away from victory after Michael Kyei Dwamena had given them a 2:1 lead in the 91st minute.

The tension of the game escalated when referee Abdul Latif Qadir awarded Nations FC a controversial penalty in the 105th minute, sparking an outrage among the Asante Kotoko supporters.

And as a way of protesting the penalty call, some Asante Kotoko fans reportedly ripped seats from the stadium stands and threw them onto the pitch, with the match officials suspending the game for more than 10 minutes to restore order.

Despite the disruption, Amidu Diarra converted the penalty to secure Nations FC a 2:2 draw at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

Reports reaching Getsportsgh.com indicate that similar cases occurred in Dormaa, Tamale and Dawu over the weekend in the Ghana Premier League.
