Ghana coach, Chris Hughton has insisted he is suitable for the Black Stars job despite the team’s recent poor performances.

The former Newcastle United manager was handed the Black Stars coaching job in February, 2023 following the resignation of Otto Addo after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Before Hughton took over the mantle, he was serving as the Black Stars technical director and was part of the technical team that took Ghana to the mundial in Qatar where the country failed to qualify from the group stage.

Since taking over as the Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton has been able to qualify Ghana to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

But the 63-year old and his technical staff have been under serious backlash following the Black Stars recent poor performance with defeat against Mexico and USA in the just ended international break escalating the situation.

The Black Stars suffered a 2:0 defeat against Mexico in an international friendly at the Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, October 15, 2023 and a disastrous 4:0 humiliation against USA at the Geodis Park in Nashville on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Apologizing to Ghanaians after the USA heavy defeat, Chris Hughton said, “I’m very sorry, and I take responsibility for the poor performance against the USA.”

Asked whether he thinks he is the right tactician to handle the Black Stars after the USA defeat, Chris Hughton responded by that,”If you ask me if I feel like I’m the right person for this job, the answer is yes.”
