Tarkwa MP beseeches Goldfields to rescind decision of parting ways with Medeama

The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem in the Western Region, George Mireku Duker has entreated Goldfields Ghana to revoke their decision of ending their sponsorship deal with Medeama SC.

According to the renowned legislator, the leadership of Goldfields Ghana have written to Medeama to discontinue backing the reinging Ghana Premier League champions financially despite the team’s qualification to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

Revealing this at a press conference after Medeama’s qualification to the 2023/24 CAF Champions League group stage, Mr Mireku Duker believes Goldfields Ghana has a responsibility to support Medeama since the mining firm operates in Tarkwa, and that the company must as soon as possible overturn their decision.

“Goldfields Ghana must as soon as possible rescind their decision of not sponsoring Medeama again. It’s their responsibility to support Medeama, and as the MP, I want them to rescind that letter they wrote to the club. We will talk to their leadership in South Africa to see the need to sponsor Medeama”, he said.

Medeama have booked a place in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League group stage for the very first time in the club’s history after eliminating Guinean giants Horoya AC in the final phase of the preliminary round.

Even though the Tarkwa-based club suffered a 2:1 defeat in the second leg fixture in Guinea, the team have joined other fifteen clubs for the official draw of the CAF Champions League group stage with a 4:3 aggregate score-line.
