Former Sports Minister ET Mensah dead

He died at the age of 77

Former Minister for Youth and Sports Enoch Teye Mensah popularly known as ET Mensah has passed on, the family confirmed.

According to the Kwaku Tetteh, the Personal Assistant for the deceased, he died in South Africa in the evening of Sunday, October 1, 2023, after battling ill-health for some time.

The former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency and former Council of State member held the sports’ ministerial role under erstwhile late Jerry John Rawlings administration.

This was at the beginning of the Fourth Republic and held that position through both terms of the Rawlings government.

But in January 2010, after a cabinet reshuffle, President John Atta Mills appointed him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare.

Late ET Mensah also served as a Minister for Education at different points and a Member of Parliament in Ghana from January 1997 till January 2017 until his defeat to NDC’s Sam George in its primaries.

His reappointment as Minister for Education in 2021 followed the resignation of Betty Mould-Iddrisu.

Having at a point in time served as the Minority Chief Whip in parliament prior to the parliamentary election in 2008, he thus became the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament in January 2009.

Mr. Mensah was also elected as the representative of the Council of State for the Greater Accra Region in February 2021.

ET Mensah, born May 17,1946, leaves behind a widow and six children.
