Kibi Technical, Abuakwa State College handed tricky opponents in Tuesday’s draw

The year's Kingsley KeepFit Club Inter Schools Championship is the second edition.

Kibi Technical Institute (KITECH) and Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO) both second cycle schools in the Abuakwa South Municipality have been handed tricky opponents for the 2023 Kingsley KeepFit Club Inter Schools Championship.

The domestic annual cup competition introduced by Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, the solitary financier of the tournament has gradually seized shape after traversing the maiden edition in 2022.

It is aimed to develop football from Abuakwa South from the grassroots to foster a new generation of Ghana football.

The draw which was held on Tuesday, September 12, for the second edition of the championship took place at the Abuakwa South’s Municipal Education Hall in Kibi, at 9:00 AM.

Proposed date for the commencement of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday, September 30 to Saturday, November 4, in the municipality.

The year’s competition is scheduled to take place at two selected venues which includes Maase Methodist School Park and Akim Asiakwa SOS Park.

Six Senior High Schools divided into two groups will participate keenly in the Kingsley KeepFit Club games for the ultimate in a highly competitive contest.

Highlights of the draw elicited some fascinating groups with Kibi Technical paired with Asiakwa St. Stephen SHS, while Abuakwa State College and Akim Asafo SHS were also drawn.

Champions, Kibi Technical Institute were paired in Group A with Kibi Technical Senior High as well as Asiakwa St. Stephen Senior High completing its group.

Matches of the group A teams’ will be played at the Maase Methodist Park, organisers of the competition have confirmed.

Elsewhere in Group B, first-edition runners-up Abuakwa State College will battle with Akim Asafo Senior High School and Apedwa Presby Senior High School at the Akim Asiakwa SOS park as its venue.

Retired Ghana Premier League referee Bismark Appiah speaking on behalf of Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, the financier of the championship reiterated his commitmemt to develop football at the municipal from the grassroots level.

”He believes in developing the well-being of an individual through Education, and we cannot take physical activity out of Education hence the need for this special initiative,” he added.

Mr Appiah made this known after the draw was held and quoted by Solomon Opoku Acheampong popularly known as General Manucho.

Attendance was representatives of Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, Retired GPL referee Bismark Appiah and Sintim Musah, Abuakwa South Education Director, Mrs. Comfort Ofori-Appiah, Abuakwa South Sports Coordinator Mrs. Edith Akpah.

Among others were Abuakwa South Physical Education (P.E.) and Sports Teacher Secretary, Michael Nimako Boateng, and all the Six Senior High School envoys.

With the maiden edition held in 2022, Kibi Technical Institute ousted Abuakwa State College 4-0 in the final to emerge champions.
