Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Opoku Bobie is confident the Black Stars can make huge impact in the 2023 AFCON if the technical team address all the shortcomings during the qualifiers.

Ghana secured its tenth successive appearance at the 2023 AFCON after beating Central African Republic 2:1 in the last game of the qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi last Thursday.

Goals from Mohammed Kudus and Ernest Appiah Nuamah ensured Ghana tops its group with twelve points to secure a spot in the AFCON which will be staged in Ivory Coast next year.

Liberia arrive in Accra for Ghana showdown

Speaking in an interview on Akoma FM in Kumasi, Evans Opoku Bobie believes Ghana will be able to compete very well in the AFCON should the technical team led by Chris Hughton tackle the shortcomings of the Black Stars before the main tournament commence in January next year.

“I believe the technical team will assess the team and make the necessary corrections going into next year’s AFCON so we can have a formidable team,” he told Akoma FM.

“With good preparations and rectifying some few technical mistakes in our team, I believe strongly that we can make a very good impact at AFCON 2023”, he added.

And as part of preparations towards the tournament, Ghana will play Liberia in an international friendly at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 12. The friendly fixture is targeted at refining the team’s skills and ensure they don’t repeat their disappointing group stage exit from the previous tournament.
