George Afriyie wishes Black Stars ‘good luck’ in Liberia friendly

George Afriyie, the defeated presidential hopeful of the Ghana Football Association has wished the Black Stars good luck in their game against Liberia in an international friendly.

Ghana will play host to the Lone Stars of Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. Kickoff time for the game is 4:00PM.

The fixture is aims to refine coach Chris Hughton’s squad ahead of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast next year after securing a qualification last Thursday, September 7.

Ghana’s qualification was sealed in a historic feat – making it to their tenth successive appearance at the AFCON after beating Central African Republic 2:1 in last game of the qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

In a statement, the renowned football administrator, George Afriyie urged the ‘Stars’ to go all out for victory when they take on their Liberian counterpart.

“I wish the Black Stars of Ghana well in their intentional friendly game against Liberia today,” portion of the statement available to reads.

Ghana, having last won the AFCON trophy since 1982 have gone 41-years without a trophy and would hope to end their trophy drought in the neighboring county next January.

The closest they came in winning the continental trophy were in 1992, 2010 and 2015 respectively.

However, in the aforementioned scenario they lost the finals on two occasions to Ivory Coast [1992 and 2015] and against the Pharos of Egypt in 2010.
