George Afriyie appeals disqualification from GFA Presidential race

Disqualified Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirants George Afriyie has filed an appeal against his unsuccessful bid.

The owner of Division One League side Planners Football Club was the only candidate contesting incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku for the enviable position.

However, his candidature was declared null and void in a bizzare development after citing him breaching article 13 (2) (j) of the GFA’s status.

In addition he was also cited for failing to provide the required number of GFA members to support his candidature.

But the astute football administrator who felt displeasure over the decision has on Friday, September 8, 2023, filed his appeal against the decision.

According to a statement exclusively available to Getsportgh.com, the appeal was successful filed at the secretariat of the GFA coupled with a notice of filing a supplementary case via email.

“Our legal representatives arrived at the secretariat of the GFA around 3:00 PM to file the hard copies of the supplementary case.

Upon arrival at the entrance of the GFA Headquarters, they were blocked by security men from entering the premises to carry out the exercise.

It is interesting to note that my lawyers were informed that they have direct instructions not to allow them to enter the premises.”

The statement added that despite the patience and persistence of its legal team to enter the premises to file the hard copies of the supplementary case, they were blocked.

“I had to call on the support of one of my personal assistants, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, to assist in getting the documents accepted by the receptionist of the GFA,” a disappointed George Afriyie said.

He used the medium and thanked all and sundry most especially the media for playing watchdog roles on the development.

“I devote my heartfelt gratitude to gallant members of the media, the watchdogs of freedom of expression and fairness, who widely reported the use of Machoism and Machiavellianism to frustrate the process of filing our appeal,” he expressed.

He concluded by urging all his followers and supporters to “remain calm as we go through the process to reverse the arbitrary decision of the Elections Committee.”
