Alexander Djiku captains Ghana for first time

Fernabache defender Alexander Djiku captained Ghana for the very first time in a friendly against Liberia on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Ghana defeated Liberia 3:1 at the Accra Sports Stadium with Djiku captaining the team and leading the backline of Joseph Aidoo, Kingsley Schindler, Nicholas Opoku and Abdul Fatawu Hamidu.

The former FC Strasbourg defender was handed the captain armband because Andre Ayew and Richard Ofori (first and deputy skipper) started the game from the bench alongside other experience players like Jordan Ayew.

The 23-year old lasted forty-five minutes before he was substituted by coach Chris Hughton.

This was Djiku’s 22nd Ghana appearance after his debut on October 9, 2020 against Mali also in an international friendly which ended in defeat for Ghana.
