Former Asante Kotoko striker calls for postponement of 2023/24 league season

Stephen Manu calls for postponement of 2023/24 league season

Former Asante Kotoko forward, Stephen Manu has called for the postponement of the 2023/24 league season to give clubs enough time to prepare.

As announced by the Ghana Football Association months ago, the 2023/24 league season will commence on September 15, 2023 with RTU and Hearts of Oak fixture at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale to kick off the season.

But Stephen Manu believes the clubs particularly Asante Kotoko are not ready for the forthcoming league season considering the outputs of the players in their pre-season matches.

Speaking on Kessben FM in Kumasi, Stephen Manu believes an ample time for the teams to fully prepare for the upcoming league season will help improve the standard of the Ghanaian top-flight league.

“Asante Kotoko players lack match fitness, and they need another month for preseason,” Manu commented, highlighting concerns about the team’s fitness and readiness.

He continued, “The players are not prepared for the upcoming season, so if the league could be postponed to allow the players to prepare thoroughly, it would be beneficial.”
