VIDEO: Central African Republic clash means a lot to Ghana – Chris Hughton

Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has underscores the significant of Ghana’s crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game on Thursday.

Ghana will take on the Central African Republic (CAR) in the final round of AFCON qualifiers at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The all-important clash which kick-off at 16:00 GMT serves as a qualification for the next AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast next January.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the game, Chris Hughton said the stars cannot afford to succumbed to CAR.

“Everybody knows what this game [vs. CAR] means. We will do everything that we can to the result that we want to get. Preparation has been good. We are missing some players through injuries but it is also an opportunity for others.”

He is determined that the team’s long-standing unbeaten record at the Baba Yara Stadium would be maintained.

“We are playing at home. We have a good record here and it is a record that we want to continue,” the former Tottenham Hotspur manager said.

The senior national team held an unbeaten record at the Baba Yara Stadium since 2000.

This follows the stars defeat to South Africa in the year’s AFCON which was co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria.
