WATCH: ‘Ghanaians perception about Black Stars selection not my concern’ – Chris Hughton

Black Stars Head Coach, Chris Hughton says he’s not perturbed over Ghanaians perception about players he invites to the senior national team.

He stated vehemently that the immense public commentaries on players who deserves no place in the team is the least he pays much attention to.

Chris Hughton’s statement come on the back of the public backlash after he included captain of the Black Stars Andre Dede Ayew who’s inactive since he left Nottingham Forest at end of the 2022/23 season.

The skipper is included into the team’s 25-man squad invited for it’s next assignment on Thursday, September 7, against Central African Republic (CAR).

Speaking on the development in an interview, Chris Hughton said every single player he call-up to the Black Stars deserves it therefore he is not moved by the public concerns.

“From my point of view as a coach, is about the squad that I want, the reasons for each player to be in the sqaud, so what is a perception side I don’t know and this is not my concern,” he said and quoted by

He explained further that he is keen on building a formidable team blended with young exuberant and experience players.

“What I have to do is to pick a squad that can be made up of young players, past more experience players… there will always be in the general public alot of debate about who should be in the sqaud and who shouldn’t be in the squad.”

The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager buttresses that Andre Dede Ayew would be key in the game against CAR thus reiterated that the “Growing perception is not something much to me.”
