Breaking: Black Stars top player ruled out of AFCON qualifier

The senior national team – the Black Stars have been dealt with a big blow following the withdrawal of winger Joseph Paintsil from the squad after he sustained injury.

According to reports, the 25-year-old who reported to camp with an injury could not endure the pains and had to be ruled out of the clash.

“The winger sustained the injury in the last period of his League game against Anderlecht on Sunday and was later substituted – forcing him to withdraw from Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Central African Republic,” a statement from the GFA reads.

Following the unexpected development, the technical team of the Black Stars granted permission to the Genk speedster to return to his club in Belgium due to the injury.

Joseph Paintsil is expected leave camp latest by tomorrow and return to his club in Belgium for a rehabilitation.

This leaves Chris Hughton with 24 players at camp to prepare for the match on Thursday.

With Richard Ofori arriving this afternoon, he joins Lawrence Ati Zigi, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, to complete the three list of goalkeepers invited.

The defenders also include Alidu Seidu, Kingsley Schindler, Stephan Ambrosius, Joseph Aidoo, Alexander Djiku, Nicholas Opoku, Baba Abdul Rahman, and Gideon Mensah

The Midfielders are Abdul Samed-Salis, Baba Iddrisu, Edmund Addo, Andre Ayew, Elisha Owusu, Mohammed Kudus, and Ransford Konigsdorffer.

Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Ernest Nuamah, Osman Bukari, and Medeama SC’s Jonathan Sowah are the strikers.

Ghana will play host to the Central Africa Republic in their final Group E game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 4:00 PM.

The stars need nothing but a win from the game to book their qualification for the tournament to be held in Ivory Coast next year January.
