REPORT: Mahatma Otoo nears Hearts of Oak return 

The former player is inching for a return

Accra Hearts of Oak has reportedly opened talks to sign former skipper of the club Mahatma Osumanu Otoo ahead of the new football season.

According to multiple reports available to, the Phobians are racing against time to land their former goal poacher.

Mahatma Otoo, we understand has run out of contract with Turkish side Balıkesirspor and is currently clubless.

Deep throat sources from the quarters of Hearts of Oak indicates that the club is keen to reunion with their former talisman.

Though, agreement between both parties is yet to reach finalities, talks of the possible transfer has pitch advance stages to recapture Mahatma Otoo.

The 31-year-old will sign a short term contract with the Phobians subject to renewal when the deal is completed.

Mahatma Otoo, when arrived will give a boost to the Accra-based team in next season amid forming a fearsome attack with Congolese striker Kashala Ramos Wanet who has started scoring for fun.

Otoo is remembered for his deadly attributes in front of goal at Hearts of Oak in the 2012–13 Ghana Premier League where he emerged as top scorer with 20 goals.

This was after he had joined the Phobians from then fellow premier league side Sporting St. Mirren following his impressive form.

He earned the discovery player of the season award in the 2008–09 season after he won five man of the match awards, scoring 5 goals from 15 games for the club.

Having signed for the 2009–2010 season with Accra Hearts of Oak on a three-year deal, Otoo, finished his debut season with 10 league goals in 19 matches and winning the Ghana Premier League’s best player of the season.

In September 2010, he moved to Tunisian club Esperance Sportive de Tunis on a 4-month loan deal and subsequently on a permanent basis.

Mahatma Otoo returned to Hearts of Oak in the second round of the 2010–11 season after a disappointing spell at Esperance and help the club finish 10th in the league.

The following season, 2011–12, he was made captain of the side coached by Charles Kwabena Akonnor and scored 10 goals in the league.

Otoo renewed his contract with Accra Hearts of Oak for another season in May 2013, and went ahead to win the top scorer of Ghana Premier League with 20 goals.

He was adjudged the Ghana Premier League best player for the second time and the SWAG Premier League player of the year after the season.

His performance attracted several European clubs but move to Norwegian side, Sogndal in the summer transfer window of 2013 and played until 2017.

Mahatma Otoo later moved to Turkey for Ümraniyespor Kulübü before he crosses carpet to fellow Turkish club Balıkesirspor.
