Black Stars: GFA explains why Thomas Party, six others snub for invitation

The Ghana Football Association has explained thoroughly reasons why some key players missed out in the Black Stars squad for Ghana’s next assignment.

Ghana will host the Central African Republic on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

The game serves as the last Africa Cup of Nations qualifier for the 2023 AFCON to be hosted by Ivory Coast.

Coach Chris Hughton in his 25-man squad released on Saturday, September 2, saw some players who couldn’t make the squad for the month’s exercise.

Notable names among the absentees include Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, Majeed Ashimeru, Joseph Wollacott, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Benjamin Tetteh and Mohammed Salisu.

GFA, providing an update on the aforementioned players through Black Star’s team Doctor, Dr. Prince Pambo said they couldn’t make the squad due to injuries.

According to Dr. Prince Pambo, Partey sustained a groin injury during training with Arsenals on Thursday, August 31 and is currently unavailable for selection.

He added that Daniel Amartey “sustained a hamstring injury” last Sunday, and currently on the sidelines.

With Majeed Ashimerua and Benjamin Tetteh, he said both lads picked up a hamstring and Quadriceps injuries during training regimes, hence their unavailability.

Goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott also had a thigh (quadriceps) injury in mid-August during training and has since not return for action, the team doctor accounted.

Mohammed Salisu, on his part, Dr. Pambo said has been undergoing rehabilitation with his club on account of a long standing injury (Osteitis Pubis).

On Kamal Deen Sulemana he indicated that “the winger had a hamstring injury sometime in July. He is currently running and doing field or ball work but has yet to join team training.”

According to the team’s doctor these players in one way or the other are expected to be returning to play in a couple of weeks.

Ghana currently top its Group which comprises of Angola, CAR and Madagascar with 9 points and need at least one point to secure a qualification to the 2023 AFCON.
