GFA Veep won't be surprised if Andre Ayew is snubbed for CAR game

The Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mark Addo says he will not be astonished if Andre Ayew is excluded from the Black Stars squad for Central African Republic game.

Ghana will host Central African Republic in the last fixture of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on September 7.

The Black Stars will need at least a point to secure a qualification to the main tournament in Ivory Coast.

And with coach Chris Hughton expected to announce the Black Stars squad for the CAR game in the next coming days, a debate has sparked in the media as to whether Andre Ayew who is currently unattached to any club should be invited for the crucial match.

Sharing his opinion on Kumasi-based Luv FM, Mark Addo believes Andre Ayew is an influential figure in the Black Stars but won’t be surprised should the former Nottingham Forest attacker be sidelined in Ghana squad for the CAR fixture.

“Andre Ayew is a phenomenal leader. He fights and leaves everything on the pitch. He’s a key part of the team, he is the captain and the leader, so we will support whatever decision the technical team will take on him.

“There have been situations in the past where players were not affiliated to clubs but were invited to the national team and so if he [Dede Ayew] does not get invitation [Against Central African Republic] to me it will not a big deal”, the GFA Vice President said on Luv FM.

Andre Ayew has been unattached since leaving Nottingham Forest after the 2022/23 season of the English Premier League.

He has been a core figure of the Black Stars since making his debut under coach Claude Le Roy in a friendly against Senegal on August 7, 2007.

Ayew has capped 114 matches for the Black Stars, scoring over 24 goals.
