Kudus Mohammed becomes second most expensive Ghanaian

Newly-signed West Ham United midfielder Kudus Mohammed is the second most expensive Ghanaian footballer after joining the English Premier League outfit.

The 23-year old has reportedly joined West Ham United on a fee of €40million plus €5million add-ons, making him the second expensive Ghanaian footballer of all-time after Thomas Partey.

Partey is leading the pack with his €50million transfer move from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal in October, 2020.

Kudus has overtaken Michael Essien who was sold to Chelsea from Olympique Lyon on €38million in 2004.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Pepe from Ivory Coast leads the list as the most expensive African player of all-time after sealing a move to Arsenal in 2019. The Gunners purchased the Ivory Coast international for £72m from Lille, who sold him just before they bought Osimhen.

Second on the list is Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen. In 2020, Napoli paid £67.5m to bring Victor Osimhen from Lille. Osimhen had joined Lille a season earlier from Royal Charleroi. But he left the French Club for Napoli after scoring 18 goals in all competitions.

The likes of Riyad Mahrez, Achraf Hakimi, Augbameyang, Naby Keita, Sabastien Haller, Thomas Partey, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane make the top ten list in Africa.
