WAFU B CUP: Ampem Darkoa in semis after win over Atletico FC

Ampem Darkoa beat the Ivorian side 3-1

Ghanaian champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies have advanced to the semifinals of the ongoing West Africa Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

Their qualification berth was secured on Friday evening when they thumb Athletico de Abidjan by 3-1 to make it two straight wins having beaten Amis Du Monde from Togo 4-2.

Mary Amponsah’s hattrick was enough to propel Ampem Darkoa to their second victory and sealed qualification into the semis.

Ampem Darkoa who put their feeling of justice to good use in the early stages of the game shot into the lead in the 2nd minute courtesy Mary Amponsah’s fine finish to give her side the opener.

Thirteen minutes later, the deadly attacker doubled the lead in 15th minutes when she taps in a beautiful cross to grab her second of the evening.

Athletico de Abidjan were visibly rattled in the first 30 minutes and the match slipped from their grasp when the Ghanaian side fired home their third goal.

Thanks to another superb pass from winger Ophelia from the right flank to find Amponsah who grabbed a hat-trick on the night.

The Ivorian side, Athletico de Abidjan, however came back strongly to pulled one back in the 83rd minutes of the game ending the match score 3-1 in Ampem Darkoa’s favour.

Mary Amponsah went ahead and won the Most Valuable Player award for her outstanding performances on the night – adding to the previous one she won against Amis Du Monde.

This means, the reigning Ghana Women’s Premier League champions quest to seeking for a ticket to represent Ghana in the CAF Women’s Champions League with the WAFU B Cup serving as qualifiers to the tournament is on course.

Ampem Darkoa’s Mary Amponsah now has 7 goals in two games in the tournament after she had netted four times against Amis Du Monde from Togo in their first game.

The Ghanaian team were drawn against Athletico de Abidjan and Amis Du Monde from Togo in Group B.
