The Dutchman takes over from Serbian trainer Slavco Matic

Hearts of Oak has officially announced Dutchman Martin Koopman as the club’s new head coach, can confirmed.

The 67-year-old officially becomes the club’s head coach on Thursday, August 17, 2023, following a formal announcement after signing all paper works with the Phobians.

Koopman’s eminent announcement follows an introduction to the entire playing body of Hearts of Oak before the club’s preseason game against lower tier side Mircle Land FC where they thrashed them 11-1.

Born, Martin Hendrikus Wilhemus Koopman now takes over the vacant Hearts of Oak coaching job since the sacking of Serbian trainer Slavko Matic in midway of last season due to poor performance.

As reported earlier by Koopman was highly recommended to the 2020/21 Ghanaian champions by his fellow Dutchman Rene Hiddink who is also the club’s technical director.

The former Ghana Premier League champions announcing the capture of the coach in a video wrote “Martin Hendrikus Wilhemus Koopman is a Phobian.

Martin Koopman is a former Dutch defender who boast of huge experience in his coaching career, having handled clubs like Cambuur, Go Ahead Eagles, FC Groningen, FC Den Bosch, Roda JC, AS Vita Club and host of others.

He has also coached the Saudi Arabia and Maldives national teams as part of his coaching career.

The Dutchman will be assisted by Abdul Rahim Bashiru Tijani who recently was added to the Phobians coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Tijani has previously served as an assistant coach at Legon Cities for the past two seasons.

The duo will collaborate to oversee the team’s ongoing preseason coupled with series of friendly matches awaiting the new campaign that starts in September.

Hearts of Oak will begin their season with a trip to Tamale to face Real Tamale United in the 2023/24 betPawa Ghana Premier League.
