Manchester City are champions of 2023 UEFA Super Cup

Manchester City FC have been crowned champions of the 2023 UEFA Super Cup after beating Sevilla in penalty shootouts on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

The England champions defeated Sevilla 5:4 on penalty shootouts to emerge champions of the Super Cup after 1:1 in regulation time.

Morocco forward En-Nesyri broke the deadlock for Sevilla in the 25th minute with a perfect header from Marcos Acuna cross.

The Europa league champions managed to hold Manchester City throughout the remaining period of the first half despite Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer coming close to the parity.

Manchester City retuned from the recess to dominate possession before Cole Palmer snatched the parity in the 63rd with a sumptuous header.

The two sides came in strong knocking for a goal but all efforts went fruitless with penalty shootouts as the only solution to declare the winner.

Manchester City managed to win the penalty shootouts by 5:4 to clinch the Super Cup trophy for the very fist time in the club’s history.

This becomes Manchester City fourth trophy in the calendar year after winning the English Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League last season.
