Abdul Ganiyu drags TP Mazembe to FIFA

Former Asante Kotoko defender Ismail Abdul Ganiyu has filed a complaint to FIFA against current club TP Mazembe over financial breaches.

The 27-year old has dragged the Congolese giants to the World football governing body over unpaid signing-on fees.

Ganiyu joined TP Mazembe on a two-and-half year deal in February, 2023 after parting ways with Iraqi club Al Talaba SC.

According to African football expert Mickey Junior, ever since Ganiyu signed for TP Mazembe, the defender has not been paid his signing-on fee hence the decision to report the club to FIFA.

Abdul Ganiyu came to the limelight following his mind-blowing performances for Karela United which attracted Asante Kotoko to chase for his signature.

He began his career with Wa All Stars and before signing for Karela United in September 2017, Ganiyu won the Ghana Premier League and Ghana Super Cup with Wa All Stars before joining Karela United.

Ganiyu later signed for Asante Kotoko in October, 2018 made his international debut for Ghana in 2021 against South Africa.

Abdul Ganiyu was a member of the Ghana U-23 that to Nigeria by 1–0 during the official opening of the newly built Akpa Ibom Stadium in Uyo on 7 November 7, 2014.

He was called up to the Black Stars in May, 2016  ahead of the 2016 MS&AD Cup against Japan under-23 team where he started the game against the Asian country.

In March 2021, Abdul-Ganiyu was handed his first Black Stars call-up  by head coach, C. K. Akonnor, for Ghana’s final two 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé and Príncipe.

He made his debut for Black Stars starting in the AFCON qualifiers against South Africa which ended in a 1–1 draw on March 25, 2021.
