In September 2022, the then Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah awarded the stadium to contract for reconstruction of the stadium after a sod-cutting ceremony took place.

The project which is being funded by the Middle Belt Development Authority was awarded to Farhadel Company Limited at a total cost of GHC27 million.

At the sod-cutting ceremony for the edifice at Nkawkaw, Mr. Asiamah said the facility was going to be transformed into a stadium complex after over 25 years of neglect.

He added that upon completion, the facility would be used to host international sports completions including football matches of the Black Stars.

The minister furthered and urged all residents of the catchment area to guard the project jealously by preventing nation-wreckers from stealing building equipment and encroaching on the site.

However, barely a year after the contract was awarded for the project, completion works is yet to be executed, leading to some unfazed persons encroaching on the site, and turning the stadium into maize cultivation.
