NYA to construct new astro turf for Senchi community

Construction works to begin on the new Astro Turf to be constructed for the people of Senchi

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has awarded a contract for the construction of a new astro turf for the people of Senchi, a suburb of Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region.

Construction of the sports facility at Senchi Methodist School Park is expected to be completed works within four calendar months.

The projects form parts four astro turf facilities to be constructed nationwide – the other three will be constructed at Pokuase – Greater Accra, Goaso – Ahafo Region, Yagaba – North East Region.

The new astro turf which when completed will have fencing and floodlights follows the signing of contract between the government of Ghana and construction firm, Aid Day Ventures.

Awarding the contract to the construction firm on Monday, July 31, 2023, followed the sod cutting for works to begin on the project.

At the sod cutting ceremony Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide said since the youth is at the heart of President Akufo-Addo, the government through the NYA will oversee development of infrastructural projects on sports to empower the youth through sporting activities.

He noted that sports development cannot be executed only through providing these astro turf facilities but to also assure the youth are exposed to quality resource centres.

By so doing, Pius Enam Hadzide believes it will give opportunity to the youth to enable them to exhibit their talents and improve their skills on FIFA standard pitches.

He also assured the public, particularly the Chief and Elders and residents of the catchment area of quality work from Aid Day Ventures construction firm.

The former deputy minister for youth and sports concluded by expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the Nananom and Chief and Elders of Senchi for giving out the piece of land for the project.

Pius Enam Hadzide thus granted the requests of the Nananom of the area on behalf of the construction firm to hire the services of locals to help boost the local economy.

Nana Gyan Kwaku Dapaah II, the Chief of Akwamu Aseibu and Adontenhene of Nifahene of Senchi urged his people to practice maintenance culture and keep the facility safe after completion.
