Gov’t begins construction of four new astro turf nationwide

These Astro Turf facilities will be situated at Pokuase, Goaso, Yagaba and Senchi

The ruling government has commenced the construction of four new Astro turf nationwide to complement the already existing ones coupled with other youth and sports centres.

These Astro turf facilities will be constructed at Pokuase – Greater Accra, Goaso – Ahafo Region, Yagaba – North East Region and Senchi in the Eastern Region.

Pronouncement of these projects was made on Monday, July 31, 2023, by the CEO of National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide when he cut the sod for the construction of Astro turf at Senchi Methodist School Park in the Asuogyaman District of Eastern Region.

Addressing a gathering of Chiefs and Elders at Senchi during the sod cutting ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide said government is committed to develop sporting infrastructural deficits in the country.

Construction of the Pokuase, Goaso, Yagaba and Senchi Astro turfs, according to Mr. Hadzide is to ensure that government through the NYA develop and empower the youth through sports.

He indicated construction works of the Senchi Astro turf is expected to be completed within four calendar months.

The facility when completed will have “fencing and floodlights,” he added.

This comes after the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif in July 2023, announced that about some six Youth and Sports centers currently under construction across the country is at its completion stage.

He disclosed that the facilities nearing completion at 92% will be officially commissioned this year when completed.

These state-of-the-art facilities are located in Axim, Dunkwa-on-Offin, Dormaa Ahenkro, Wa, Koforidua, and Ho.
