We’ve instituted corporate structure into GFA – Gideon Fosu

The GFA currently has over 24 sponsors under its administration

Gideon Fosu, a member of the Finance Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has chronicled how they succeed in securing more than twenty sponsorship and partnership deals under the current administration of Kurt Okraku.

He indicated that the committee following its formation and assumption of post were focused and oriented to bring the corporate structure into the whole GFA finance.

Mr. Fosu’s explanation comes after the GFA recently published sponsorship deals and packages it had acquire from corporate world since 2019.

Some of these sponsors and partners are betPawa, Visit Ghana, Melcon Ghana, InterCity STC, betway, Uber, KGL, Zeepay, Night Angel, MTN, Puma, NASCO, StartTimes, Goil, Flora Joy, Macron and Malta Guiness and among others.

Detailing how the five-member finance committee steadily managed to earn several sponsors for the FA, Gideon Fosu said they created a viable environment that attracted investors for the association.

“As part of the finance committee when we first took over as members of the committees – we sought out to more or less trying to bring the corporate structure into the whole GFA finance, so what we initially did was that we look out and did what is called the processing improvement.

“Agenda where we try to look at where there were places where they can improve [to bring new ideas] and also we tried to set it up such that it would be more vibrant and would have the cooporate structure that was key for us,” he added.

Gideon Fosu who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Division One League side Akosombo Krystal Palace was elated about the yeoman job done by the finance committee.

The five-member committee comprises of George Amoako, Samuel Kaye Brew-Butler, Mathew Ampofo and Gideon Fosu is headed by vice president of the association Mark Addo.

Their core mandate, according to the Executive Council of the GFA includes cooperating with the FA’s General Secretary to prepare and submit the annual budget of the association, advising the EXCO on financial transactions and investment.

Also, they were to ensure compliance with the budget and financial policies of the GFA, and to make recommendations to the EXCO as well as reviewing the accounting and audit regime at the GFA coupled with sending periodic reports to the EXCO.

Kurt Okraku who is in the last year of his term in office since he won the GFA elections in 2019 has declared his intention to seek re-election in the next election.

He is expected to face fierce contest from other presidential hopefuls such as George Afriyie, a former vice president of the GFA and a former Western Regional RFA chairman Kojo Yanka.
