Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is close to joining Monaco in the French ligue I.

The 24-year old has been scheduled to undergo medical next week after Southampton agreed to Monaco’s £17m deal.

Salisu, who had one year left on contract, was not included in the Southampton squad for their pre-season friendlies against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday or Bournemouth on Tuesday.

He made his last appearance for Southampton in March and was left out towards the end of the season due to issues with his commitment and application in working back from injury.

Salisu joined Southampton in 2020 for £10.9m from Spanish side Real Valladolid.

He made 80 appearances in all competitions for the Saints over the course of three seasons at St Mary’s Stadium.
