Exclusive: Only 3 out of over 20 venues approves for 2023/24 GPL season

Three match venues met the requirements of the club licensing board in its ongoing inspection

At least three out the over twenty venues submitted by Ghana Premier League clubs ahead of the commencement of the 2023/24 season has already been approved by the Club Licensing Board, Getsportsgh.com can exclusively state.

The venues, Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium and WAFA Park – Sogakope were granted conditional approvals by the Club Licensing Board in their ongoing inspection exercise of all eighteen Premier league clubs.

This disclosure was made by the Manager of the Club Licensing Department, Julius Ben Emunah on Thursday, July 27, 2023, in an exclusively interview on Onua TV’s Agro Fie.

The imminent inspection of the match venues became necessary following the submission of the venues by all-eighteen-premier-league clubs for the 2023/24 forthcoming season.

“All 18 Premier League Clubs have submitted their match venues ahead of the start of the 2023/24 betPawa Premier League in September.

The Clubs have also submitted their alternative match venues in accordance with the Club Licensing Regulations of the Ghana Football Association,” an initial statement from the GFA announced.

Julius Ben Emunah speaking on club licensing related matters to Alfred Takyi Mensah said ‘Kumasi Baba Yara, Accra Sports Stadium and WAFA Park are already approved for the GPL’ season.

With the greenlight given on these listed stadia’s, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Accra Great Olympics and Accra Lions are cleared to use the venues as its first-choice home grounds.

WAFA Park in Sogakope which included the three approved venues will be served as an alternative venue for Accra Great Olympics and Accra Lions respectively.

Mr. Emunah commenting on the standard of pitches to be considered for the season preached that most of the artificial pitches previous used for GPL matches would not be accepted this time around because they do not meet the club licensing standard.

The 2023/24 Ghana Premier league season kick starts between September 15-18, 2023.
