It’d been better Otumfuo finances Asante Kotoko himself – Kojo Addae-Mensah

Chief Executive Officer of DataBank Group, Kojo Addae- Mensah has suggested Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II financed Kumasi Asante Kotoko himself.

According to him, it would be prudent the life patron of the porcupine worriors finances the running of the day-to-day of the club.

His comments come after Otumfuo Osei Tutu II instituted a four-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) to temporarily take charge of the club’s affairs following the dissolution of the board of directors whose mandate expires.

The committee comprised of Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua; the Kontomponiaferehene and a chartered accountant, James Kwesi Appiah, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum; the newly appointed Kotoko head coach and Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi as the administrative manager.

They have been tasked to ensure the club fulfills all the statutory obligations for the Ghana Premier League and prepare a formidable team for the 2023/24 season.

Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM Kojo Mensah-Addae believes despite the formation of the IMC, the model of which Asante Kotoko is administered would never change, thus, his call for a review to allow the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom bear the cost of the club.

“We all know football clubs are financed by their owners and in the case of Asante Kotoko, its bankroller is Otumfuo. I’d prefer he finances the club himself than giving it to someone else,” says the football enthusiast.

Mr. Addae-Mensah ceased the opportunity and advise members of the IMC to change the narratives of Kotoko assuring that they help regain Asante Kotoko’s lost glory.

“The club needs serious investment if it wants to compete in Africa,” he said in the interview.

The life patron as part of ensuring the task given the IMC is achieved diligently had given them Gh¢600,000 for player recruitments ahead of the 2023/24 league season.
