Ghana paid $80k for yellow card accumulation at the 2022 World Cup – GFA

Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has disclosed that Ghana had to pay a hefty fine of $80,000 for total yellow card accumulations during the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

According to the him, the Black Stars accumulated eight yellow cards in all three matches they played in the group stage.

Thus, with $10,000 for every yellow card issued to a player, demanded the country to pay for the cost.

Players including Kamaldeen Sulemana, Daniel Amartey, Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams, Andre Ayew, and Mohammed Kudus, each accumulating one yellow card whiles French-based defender Alidu Seidu, received two cautions.

Speaking on Angel TV, Henry Asante Twum, said the association had to pay $80,000 for the caution issued to its players.

“We paid $80,000 for yellow cards acquisition at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”

The huge amount, Mr. Twum noted was deducted from Ghana’s FIFA World Cup money that was supposed to be given to the association.

Ghana had a disastrous tournament in its third World Cup where they failed to progress past the group stage.

They recorded a single win against South Korea but lost to Portugal and Uruguay.
