He played over hundred matches for Leicester City, scoring only two goals as a defender.

He was heavily linked to Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan but the ace defender opted to join Besiktas.

Amartey has been a core figure of the Ghana senior male national team, Black Stars since his debut in 2015.

He started from the Ghana U-20 side before being promoted to the Black Stars, where he played in all the group matches for Ghana at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Black Stars finished as runners-up.
